Mark Barreiro, MS
Senior Grants Officer
Mark Barreiro is the Senior Grants Officer at The John A. Hartford Foundation. In this role he is responsible for the development, implementation, and documentation of systems and procedures that facilitate an efficient and effective grantmaking life cycle.
Mark has 24 years of grants management experience. Before joining the Foundation, he served as the Senior Grants and Operations Manager at the New York State Health Foundation for ten years and has also worked at The J.M. Kaplan Fund and The Commonwealth Fund. In between these roles, he was the Client Communications Manager for MicroEdge, a technology provider for the philanthropic community, where he worked with grants management professionals around the country, and organized and managed an annual three-day professional development and educational conference.
He is a member of Peak Grantmaking, an association of grants management professionals and, in the early days of this organization, co-authored the guide, Best Practices in Grants Management. Throughout his tenure in the field, Mark has conducted a variety of workshops and presentations related to grants management. He holds a Master of Science degree from Hunter College.
