NBC Nightly News aired a video about a John A. Hartford Foundation-supported initiative, Hospital at Home, "Study Shows Better Outcomes for ER Patients with ‘Hospitals at Home'."

In the video, Dr. John Torres, Medical Correspondent for NBC News, followed a patient being successfully treated in her home by Dr. David Levine for an acute illness normally requiring hospitalization. "Emergency room patients treated at home have fewer hospital readmissions, fewer ER visits and a shorter length of treatment, a new study shows."

Dr. Levine said Hospital at Home patients "get an extra two hours of sleep and two more hours of physical activity each day which helps them recover faster, and for the hospital costs are 52% less, one reason it's being studied in leading medical centers."
