CAPC Webinar: Driving Healthcare Innovation – How Palliative Care Serves as a Model

CAPCwebinar3_600

The Center to Advance Palliative Care (CAPC) is holding a webinar on March 6 on "Driving Healthcare Innovation – How Palliative Care Serves as a Model."

How can the rapid adoption of a high-value healthcare innovation be achieved in the context of a fee-for-service business model? Palliative care provides a powerful example: between 2000 and 2015, the proportion of U.S. hospitals with more than 50 beds that had palliative care programs tripled, from 25% to 5%.

Based on the February 2018 article, "Palliative Care Leadership Centers Are Key To The Diffusion Of Palliative Care Innovation" published in Health Affairs, this briefing will focus on how the principles of social entrepreneurship enabled the Center to Advance Palliative Care to help drive adoption of a new modality of care, and how strategies such as its training program, the Palliative Care Leadership Centers, led the way.

Presenters are:

  • Diane Meier, MD, FAAHMP, Director, CAPC; and
  • J. Brian Cassel, PhD, Assistant Professor, Hematology/Oncology & Palliative Care, VCU Medical Center
