The Journal of the American Geriatrics Society (JAGS) has published a paper, "Leadership Lessons: Developing Mentoring Infrastructure for GEMSSTAR Scholars."

Through the National Institute on Aging's (NIA's) Grants for Early Medical/Surgical Specialists Transition to Aging Research (GEMSSTAR) U13 grant, NIA and the American Geriatrics Society developed three transdisciplinary research conferences with a focus on mentoring and leadership skills development. The conference themes focused on frailty, models of aging, and cognition.

The paper provides observations and lessons learned from these three conferences, and talks about future directions.
