NY1 featured a HRSA-funded Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP) initiative at Bronx Health Corps led by The Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing (HIGN) NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing partnering with Montefiore Health System and R.A.I.N. (Regional Aid for Interim Needs, Inc.)

NY1 points out, "there are more seniors living now than ever before in the history of the United States. But as the population grows older, there are fewer health care professionals being trained to care for them. It's an issue several city institutions are partnering with community-based groups to address —targeting, first, residents in the Bronx, where health outcomes are poorest in New York state."

NY1's Erin Billups featured the Bronx community center and spoke with HIGN's Dr. Tara Cortes.

HRSA funds 44 GWEP grants to build up the elder care workforce.
