NY Times Features Medication Risk for Elders, Beers Criteria and AGS Foundation for Health in Aging

Jane Brody writes in the New York Times Well Blog about potentially dangerous drugs for older adults and the recently updated Beers Criteria to help providers keep their patients safe.  The Beers Criteria was updated by the American Geriatrics Society, with funding in part from the John A. NPR's The Diane Rehm Show features Amy Berman and Diane Meier

On Monday, April 16th, NPR's The Diane Rehm Show features Sr. Program Officer Amy Berman and Dr. Diane Meier of the Center to Advance Palliative Care in a segment called, "Facing Death: Choosing Quality of Life Over Aggressive Treatment." The piece airs at 11:06am on Washington, DC's WAMU 88.5 and then will be distributed by National Public Radio.

American Federation For Aging Research Announces 2012 Hartford Centers of Excellence In Geriatric Medicine Scholars

The American Federation for Aging Research (AFAR) announced it will distribute nearly $2.5 million in career development awards to 83 advanced fellows and junior faculty members at 28 Hartford Centers of Excellence in Geriatric Medicine and Training. The Centers of Excellence program is funded by The John A. Hartford Foundation, a committed champion of improving health care for older adults, and administered by AFAR, and since 2010 has granted more than $7.5 million, with the goal of increasing the number of academic leaders in geriatric medicine. For a complete list of this year’s Hartford scholars, please visit AFAR's web…

Hartford Foundation.

Society for Hospital Medicine Wins Eisenberg Award

The National Quality Forum (NQF) and The Joint Commission have named the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM) the recipient of the 2011 John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety and Quality Award for Innovation in Patient Safety and Quality at the National Level, citing its Hartford Foundation-funded Project BOOST (Better Outcomes for Older Adults through Safe Transitions).
