On July 14, The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) published the proceedings of the Roundtable’s first workshop, Integrating the Patient and Caregiver Voice into Serious Illness Care, on December 15, 2016, in Washington, DC.

The Roundtable was part of NASEM's grant with The John A. Hartford Foundation, "Roundtable on Quality Care for People with Advanced Illness." The Roundtable report summarizes the presentations and discussions in terms of improving care for patients with serious illness, including the talk by Amy Berman, JAHF Senior Program Officer. Throughout the workshop, the panelists and audience shared many examples of what was described by Ms. Berman, as “a deeply human conversation” among people who received care and the providers of their care.
