Melissa Batchelor-Murphy, PhD, RN, FNP, FAAN, interviewed Senator Bob Casey (D-PA), Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging, and two 2019-2020 Health and Aging Policy Fellows who served in his office for the Melissa B PhD podcast episode 35, "U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging: An Interview with Senator Bob Casey (D-PA)."

During the podcast, Melissa spoke with Senator Casey and Health and Aging Policy Fellows (HAPF) Thomas Egan and Lieke van Heumen about how different policy levers can be used to make dramatic changes for the lives of millions of Americans. Senator Casey discussed some of the recent policy changes he's worked on, "One of the most substantial contributions that I’ve made to policy development amid the COVID-19 crisis is two bills focused on seniors and people with disabilities."

Thomas Egan and Lieke van Heumen talked about their experiences in the HAPF program. "During my training that I received this year, it allowed me to improve my knowledge and skills in aging and disability policy," said Lieke van Heumen. "Fellows are of great value to any Senate office, regardless of the subject matter, regardless of the issues or the policy," noted Senator Casey. He elaborated on the roll policy fellows play saying, "Our Health and Aging Policy Fellows became integral to the operations of the committee work that we do."
