American College of Surgeons Launches the Geriatric Surgery Verification Program

GS Vlogo 002

The American College of Surgeons (ACS) has introduced a new standardized program - the Geriatric Surgery Verification (GSV) program - for hospitals devoted to high-quality surgical care for older adults.

This new surgical quality improvement program introduces a validated list of 30 evidence-based and patient-centered standards for geriatric surgery that hospitals can implement to continuously optimize surgical care for older adults. The care standards are evidence-based and centered on goals that matter most to the patient.

With support from The John A. Hartford Foundation, the ACS led a group of over 50 stakeholder organizations - collectively called the Coalition for Quality in Geriatric Surgery - in the development of the GSV Program and its surgical standards. Hospitals will be able to apply and formally enroll in the program beginning in October 2019.

Hospitals interested in learning more about the application and enrollment process can contact the ACS at geriatricsurgery@facs.org, or visit the ACS website.
