Webinar Training Series

Trust for America's Health (TFAH) is hosting a series of free webinars, open to all, as part of their monthly Age-Friendly Public Health Systems training series. The most recent 2022 training was on Health Equity, Social Determinants of Health and the Age-Friendly Public Health Systems 6Cs Framework on December 15.

To help prepare state and local health departments to meet the challenges and leverage opportunities in healthy aging, TFAH will provide learning sessions on the third Thursday of each month at 3:00 pm ET. These AFPHS trainings will focus on key issues in healthy aging and the role of public health.

The following trainings are included in this series:

Understanding Ageism: January 20, 2022
The focus of this training was on addressing ageism and its relevance to both public health and the aging services sector. Watch and share the recording.

This training focused on the Department of Health and Human Service’s programming and resources that support healthy aging. Watch and share the recording.

Healthy Aging & Social Determinants of Health: March 17, 2022

HIV among Older Adults & Social Determinants of Health: April 21, 2022

Technology is a social determinant of health and the May session of the AFPHS Training Series featured the Massachusetts Healthy Aging Collaborative (MHAC), a cross-sector and statewide network of stakeholders promoting and supporting inclusive age- and dementia friendly communities. Health Equity, Social Determinants of Health and the Age-Friendly Public Health Systems 6Cs Framework: December 15, 2022
The December AFPHS provided guidance for public health practitioners to incorporate equitable healthy aging components within public health practices that address the social determinants of health, all in the context of the AFPHS 6Cs Framework. Watch and share the recording.

TFAH created an "AFPHS Champion" designation to recognize public health professionals who have committed to building their own knowledge and expertise and have a desire to lead their departments in becoming age-friendly. The following is required to obtain AFPHS Champion recognition:

  • Attend at least six AFPHS Training sessions – Link to AFPHS Trainings
  • May include those trainings that have been previously recorded
  • At least one of the sessions must be on ageism
  • Becoming an AFPHS Champion will also meet the first requirement for health department Recognition
