New York, NY (September 16, 2020) – “The just-released report from the independent Coronavirus Commission on Safety and Quality in Nursing Homes highlights the rigorous and valuable work of many diverse experts. The process was thorough and inclusive, with all perspectives sought and heard. With great seriousness and deliberation, my fellow commission members and I reviewed content from scientific experts, as well as input from frontline workers and nursing home residents and their families who were most affected by the pandemic in America’s nursing homes.

I appreciate MITRE for being responsive to commissioners’ input, as well as their questions, and for leading this important effort. I know that the release of this report is just the first step of many that public and private partners must take to protect nursing home residents and staff. It is time for all of us to fundamentally rethink models for nursing home care that emphasize safety and effectiveness for all."
