CAPC and ATI Advisory Report: Opportunities for Improving Access to Palliative Care for Dual Eligible Individuals with Serious Illness

CAPC and ATI Advisory Report Opportunities for Improving Access to Palliative Care for Dual Eligible Individuals with Serious Illness

The Center to Advance Palliative Care and ATI Advisory have released a report on, "Opportunities for Improving Access to Palliative Care for Dual Eligible Individuals with Serious Illness."

Center to Advance Palliative Care (CAPC) and ATI Advisory's publication is the first ever report focused on dual eligible individuals living with serious illness. Using a narrow definition of serious illness, it finds that at least 10% of people eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid can benefit from palliative care, but face myriad barriers in access.

This brief reviews some of the more common access barriers and makes practical recommendations for CMS, state Medicaid authorities, and dual-eligible special needs health plans to improve access and quality of life.
