Preparing for a Hospital Stay: Six New AARP How-To Videos and Resource Guides for Family Caregivers

AARP has released a new series of how-to videos and accompanying resource guides that walk family caregivers through what to expect before, during, and after a planned or emergency hospital stay.

The “How-To” videos and resource guides for family caregivers are on specific medical/nursing tasks – including preparing special diets, managing incontinence, wound care, mobility, and managing medications. Centered on the 4Ms of Age-Friendly Health Systems, the six topics covered are:

The videos and resource guides, many of which are available in both English and Spanish, are free of charge and were developed by Home Alone Alliance members—the AARP Public Policy Institute and the Rush Center for Excellence in Aging—and funded by The John A. Hartford Foundation.
