"UPMC Shadyside Focuses on Preventing Patients' Delirium" describes the impact of The John A. Hartford Foundation-supported HELP initiative which Shadyside has been using since 2002.

Dr. Rubin, a geriatrician who is the hospital’s chief of medicine, said that " data tracked in the program has generated estimates that HELP each year is preventing 1,500 cases of delirium at the hospital and reducing readmissions by 100, with overall annual savings of about $7 million."
