Communications Assistant

Ximena Gallego is the Communications Assistant at The John A. Hartford Foundation, supporting the development, implementation and execution of the Foundation’s communications strategic plans and activities.

Prior to joining the Foundation, Ms. Gallego was a licensed public-school teacher, working in the Department of Education for five years. Taking the skills she gained as an educator, she embarked on a new journey. Combining her education and media communications degree, she worked for a strategic communications firm that developed corporate social responsibility programs that connect the client’s charitable mission to the company’s goal.

Ms. Gallego was the communications intern at Wellspring Philanthropic Fund, a private Foundation that is dedicated to social, gender and racial justice for all. She also interned at Brooklyn Community Foundation, the first and only public Foundation solely dedicated to Brooklyn’s charitable community that invests in racial justice and community-led change. After her internships, Ms. Gallego became the communications specialist for Osborne Association, an organization that works directly with people affected by the criminal justice system and advocates for policies and practices that promote dignity, justice and liberation. Ms. Gallego was a recipient of the Maury Povich Scholarship and graduated from Queens College with a double BA in Media Studies/Communications and Anthropology, before earning her MS from Hunter College.
