ACS cover

The American College of Surgeons (ACS) has published an ACS Bulletin article, "From Blueprints to Blastoff: Launching the Geriatric Surgery Verification (GSV) Quality Improvement Program."

The feature article describes how ACS partnered with The John A. Hartford Foundation in 2015 to create the Coalition for Quality in Geriatric Surgery (CQGS), to systematically improve the surgical care of older adults by establishing a verifiable quality improvement program with standards based on best evidence focused on what matters most to the individual patient. The article:

  • Identifies the drivers for developing the GSV Quality Improvement Program, including the rapid growth in the number of Americans ages 65 and older
  • Summarizes the guiding principles of the GSV Quality Improvement Program, specifically shared decision making and team-based, interdisciplinary care
  • Describes the formation of the CQGS and its aim to develop verifiable standards based on best evidence

The Program is being formally launched at the 2019 ACS Quality and Safety Conference, July 19-22.
