Article: New IHI Chief Executive - 'There is No Quality Without Equity'

HealthLeaders has published an interview with Kedar Mate, MD, on his perspectives on healthcare improvement in an article, "New IHI Chief Executive: 'There is No Quality Without Equity.'"

Dr. Mate, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement's (IHI) new president and CEO, said that equity is an underpinning consideration in efforts to improve U.S. healthcare, and he talked about how the coronavirus pandemic has exposed areas for improvement in healthcare. Among topics were opportunities to improve patient safety, and his top healthcare improvement initiatives at IHI, "The first one, which I have been involved with and admire, is our work on Age-Friendly Health Systems...One immediate consequence of COVID has been the need for focusing the Age-Friendly Health System's attention not only on acute care but also nursing homes to try to stem the challenge of how COVID is affecting nursing homes. Through the Age-Friendly program, we have quickly stood up a nursing home rapid response network."
