Blog: Making It Easier to Talk about Advance Care Planning

AB Aguide

The American Society on Aging AgeBlog, has published an article, "Making It Easier to Talk about Advance Care Planning," authored by JAHF Program Officer Scott Bane.

Advance care planning helps people specify the kind of care they would like to receive if they become unable to speak for themselves.

The blog discusses the importance of advance care planning, noting only a third of adults and roughly 50% of older adults have completed advance directives.

Given the important role that legal professionals play in the process, JAHF supported the American Bar Association (ABA) Commission on Law and Aging to develop a guide, "Advance Directives: Counseling Guide for Lawyers." The guide will help ensure that attorneys and health care teams work together to carry out people's wishes.
