The Geriatric Emergency Department Collaborative (GEDC) has released Community Paramedicine Resources, that includes a podcast, blog and webinars on community paramedicine programs across the US, Canada and Ireland.

Community paramedics play an important role in assessing older adults before they reach the emergency department. GEDC examined how community paramedicine can impact older adults both before and after a visit to the emergency department by engaging leaders at the forefront of this emerging field.

The Community Paramedicine Resources include:

  • GEMCast Podcast: How Paramedics Can Make a Difference in Geriatric Care: GEMCast host Dr. Christina Shenvi is joined by Megan Corry, Director of the Paramedicine Program at the City College of San Francisco. They talk about the history of community paramedicine, the potential impact of geriatric specialty paramedicine, and key assessments and communication strategies they are implementing to improve the care of older adults.
  • On-Demand Webinar: Community Paramedics and the Geriatric ED: This recording explores the concept of community paramedicine and how it can be integrated with older person care in EDs, and includes stories from front-line practitioners about the benefits and challenges of community paramedicine in providing care for older adults post-ED discharge.
  • GEDC Blog: How Community Paramedics Can Make a Difference in Geriatric Care: As first responders, paramedics hold a unique position in the care of older adults.This blog details how training community paramedics in geriatric principles can have a positive impact on older adults in need of emergency care.
