JAG Article: Refining a Taxonomy of Goals for Older Adults With Functional Limitations and Their Caregivers to Inform Care Planning

The Journal of Applied Gerontology (JAG) has published an article, "Refining a Taxonomy of Goals for Older Adults With Functional Limitations and Their Caregivers to Inform Care Planning."

In promoting age-friendly health systems, there has been a focus on person-oriented care, centered on What Matters to the older adult. In this article, the authors report findings from focus groups and interviews conducted with older adults and caregivers to pinpoint care goals. The emergence of new goals not congruous with the current taxonomy shows the importance of identifying What Matters prior to establishing care plans, particularly for addressing complex needs.
