JAGS Paper: Health Equity in Hospital at Home - Outcomes for Economically Disadvantaged and Non-disadvantaged Patients

JAGS paper

The Journal of the American Geriatrics Society (JAGS) has published a paper titled, "Health Equity in Hospital at Home: Outcomes for Economically Disadvantaged and Non-disadvantaged Patients."

Hospital at Home (HaH) has been demonstrated to be effective in various settings and patient populations. However, whether HaH is feasible or effective for socioeconomically disadvantaged patients is unknown. For this study, researchers recruited patients aged 18 years and older with fee-for-service Medicare or coverage from a private insurer contracted for HaH services with the aim of determining whether Hospital at Home services was received by disadvantaged patients and, if so, whether effectiveness differs for patients depending on socioeconomic status (SES) using two indicators of SES.

The National Institute on Aging, Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center and The John A. Hartford Foundation supported this work.
