NASHP Webinar How State Palliative Care Advisory Councils are Advancing Serious Illness Policy

The National Academy for State Health Policy (NASHP) is holding a webinar April 30 on, "How State Palliative Care Advisory Councils are Advancing Serious Illness Policy."

Twenty-four states have a palliative care advisory council, coalition, or task force created through state legislation or regulation to guide work to support and expand care for those with serious illnesses. The councils in Maine, Maryland and Texas have guided their states in making significant progress in palliative care, though they differ in their structures and paths to progress.

This webinar will feature state officials and council members from these three states sharing insights about their councils’ creation and impact and discussing lessons learned for states looking to create a council or reinvigorate an existing council.

Speakers include:

  • Scott Bane, JD, MPA, Senior Program Officer, The John A. Hartford Foundation
  • Paul J. Ballard, JD, Maryland Assistant Attorney General, Counsel for Health Decisions Policy
  • Jimmy Blanton, MPAff, Deputy Director, Quality and Program Improvement Medicaid and CHIP Services, Texas Health and Human Services Commission
