TFAH Age-Friendly Public Health Systems 2024 Webinar Series

Age friendly public health systems trust for americas health 2024 webinar training series 2

Trust for America's Health (TFAH) is hosting a series of free webinars, open to all, as part of their monthly Age-Friendly Public Health Systems (AFPHS) training series continuing from 2023. The next AFPHS webinar training will be held on May 16 on the 2024 Older Americans Month theme of “Powered By Connection.”

The training series provides guidance on implementing each of the AFPHS 6Cs (based on the 6Cs Framework). Each session highlights specific examples of public health programs, policies, and other activities that align with the 6Cs and advance healthy aging as a core function.

The 2024 AFPHS series of trainings will provide context on the intersection of equity with several key public health topics. The next AFPHS monthly training will be on May 16 and - in alignment with the Older Americans Month theme of "Powered By Connection" - will focus on equitable strategies to promote connection among older people. The speaker for this training is Phil Bors, Senior Project Director with Healthy Places by Design.

Previous 2024 trainings:

  • April 18 offered an overview of Trust for America’s Health’s Ready or Not 2024 report that measures states’ preparedness to respond to a spectrum of health emergencies and to provide ongoing public health services. It included information on protecting older adults during heat emergencies, with examples of state and local preparedness strategies that align with the AFPHS 6Cs Framework.
  • March 21 featured insights on how to prioritize equity within healthy aging practice in public health. Representatives from California and Tennessee shared examples of how they are operationalizing equity in their states.
  • February 15 addressed the intersection of equity and healthy aging, with examples of integrating equity in community programs to support the health and well-being of older adults. Ensuring all older adults have an equitable opportunity to live healthy lives is foundational to age-friendly public health.
  • January 18 was AFPHS's Annual Training on Ageism. It provided context on how mitigating ageism is also a way to improve equity.

You can view recordings of each of the 2024 and 2023 trainings here on TFAH's AFPHS YouTube channel.

TFAH created an "AFPHS Champion" designation to recognize public health professionals who have committed to building their own knowledge and expertise and have a desire to lead their departments in becoming age-friendly. The Program now offers opportunities for recognition at three levels: Department of Health Recognition, Public Health Organization Recognition, and Individual Recognition. Go to the AFPHS enrollment page for information on how to become an AFPHS Champion.
