PRESIDENT'S STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS INCLUDES COMMITMENT TO IMPROVE NURSING HOME CARE AND SUPPORT FAMILY CAREGIVERS

“People who care about improving the lives of older adults can take heart in President Biden’s focus last night on better care for all of us as we age.

“The president was right to highlight Congress’ bipartisan commitment to protect our vital safety net programs that older adults in the United States rely on to provide needed medical care and help with daily living.

“The president was right to highlight the urgent need to rigorously protect older adults from nursing homes that endanger the safety of residents or unnecessarily drive-up costs to the nation’s health care system.

“The president was right to support the workforce needed to care for older adults who choose to remain in their homes as they age, and to highlight the need to provide relief for millions of family caregivers.

“Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle must immediately work together to improve care in ways that matter to older adults. Let’s unite to ensure that the nation as a whole, and the older adults we love, can benefit from an age-friendly America that is characterized by dignity, choice and high-quality care.”
