Bipartisan Policy Center Issue Brief: AI’s Impact on the Direct Care Workforce

BPC Issue Brief AI Direct Care Workforce

The Bipartisan Policy Center has published an issue brief on the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the direct care workforce.

The authors argue that clearly defined, managed and implemented AI tools can be used to support the paid direct care workforce. These tools may have the potential to reduce caregiver burden, free up caregivers’ time to provide hands-on care and support independence for individuals with long-term care needs.

The brief outlines the benefits and risks of these tools. It also highlights five areas where policymakers can help ensure that the benefits of AI use by direct care workers outweigh the risks: oversight, public narratives, AI literacy, economic mobility and workforce supports.
