Grants for Early Medical/Surgical Specialists’ Transition to Aging Research (GEMSSTAR) RFA Released

The National Institute on Aging (NIA) has released this year's Request For Applications for the Grants for Early Medical/Surgical Specialists’ Transition to Aging Research (GEMSSTAR) R03 awards, a partnership with the T. Franklin Williams and Dennis W. Jahnigen scholars programs. These faculty career development awards for junior physician faculty interested in aging research, either in the internal medicine subspecialties or surgical and related specialties, provide up to $100,000 in direct NIA research funding, with an additional $50,000 in professional development support through the Williams or Jahnigen programs. Letters of intent are due September 1 and applications are due October 1, 2012 for awards that begin summer 2013. Please visit the NIA for more information.

The T. Franklin Williams Scholars program for internal medicine subspecialists is administered by the Association of Specialty Professors/Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine and the Dennis W. Jahnigen Scholars program for surgical and related specialists is administered by the American Geriatrics Society. Funding for both programs for junior faculty specialty physicians with an interest in aging research is provided by grants from the John A. Hartford Foundation and funding from the below partnering specialty societies.
