IHI Blog: Using the Age-Friendly 4Ms to Better Advocate for Older Adults (and Geriatric Care)
The Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) has published a blog, "Using the Age-Friendly 4Ms to Better Advocate for Older Adults (and Geriatric Care)."
The blog discusses Clinical Services Chief of Senior Medicine at UC San Diego Health Khai Nguyen's experience in joining an Age-Friendly Health Systems (AFHS) action community. "In Age-Friendly Health Systems, age-friendly care is defined by the “4Ms”: What Matters, Medication, Mentation, and Mobility."
Dr. Nguyen comments on how the age-friendly movement has helped him deliver care to older adults. “The 4Ms framework and the age-friendly movement gave me a voice as a geriatrician,” now he could explain that, “what we do is take care of older adults by focusing on the 4Ms framework. That ends up leading to age-friendly care.”
The blog goes on to discuss recent work he has done to improve care for older adults with funding from The Dr. Seuss Foundation.
