IHI Update on Next Age-Friendly Health Systems Action Community During COVID-19 Crisis
The Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) has announced that the next Age-Friendly Health Systems Action Community scheduled to begin this spring will continue, with modifications intended to support teams to engage at a pace that works for them during the COVID-19 crisis. Any teams interested in joining can still do so, by signing up here.
Given that older adults are at particular risk from COVID-19, IHI hopes the Action Community can serve as a supportive community for any health care team working to provide evidence-based care to older adults and will continue to listen for ways to adapt the content and approach to best meet current needs. Spring Action Community members may participate as they are able, including starting late and/or coming and going throughout the educational webinar series.
IHI also understands that this may not be the right time for organizations to participate in an Action Community. IHI encourages systems to reconnect with the Age-Friendly Health Systems movement in any of the following ways:
- Rejoin the Spring Action Community any time before June and participate at a pace and level that makes sense for your organization.
- Join the Friends of Age-Friendly group (if you’re not already a member) to receive communications and updates no more than monthly.
- At any time, create an outline of how you might deliver 4Ms care in your setting and share it with IHI here. This is a powerful first step to understanding how the 4Ms can help your site prioritize the most critical care to older adults.
