JAGS Paper: Accelerating the Pace of Elder Justice Policy to Meet the Needs of a Growing Aging Population
The Journal of the American Geriatrics Society (JAGS) has published a paper, "Accelerating the Pace of Elder Justice Policy to Meet the Needs of a Growing Aging Population."
The paper discusses the history of policy measures addressing elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation. Despite these efforts, policy progress has been slow, and funding remains insufficient. In response, 76 experts from various fields convened in November 2023 to develop strategies for accelerating policy action on elder mistreatment.
Key themes included the need for a stronger infrastructure, data-driven policies, evidence-based prevention and intervention, and strategic collaborations. The participants emphasized a holistic, long-term approach and identified action steps for both national and local levels to improve elder mistreatment prevention, intervention, and response.
The findings highlight the importance of leveraging recent data, existing initiatives, and cross-sector partnerships to address elder justice more effectively.
