JAGS Paper: Patient Outcomes Associated With a Composite Measure of 4Ms Care Adherence in the Inpatient Setting
A new study published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society found that higher adherence to the 4Ms Framework in hospital care was associated with fewer readmissions and shorter hospital stays for older adults.
Researchers examined nearly 35,000 hospital stays among adults age 65 and older at the University of California, San Francisco (USCF). They assessed how consistently care teams completed 4Ms assessments and related care practices, such as medication reconciliation, delirium prevention and mobility support.
The findings can help hospital leaders identify levels of 4Ms adherence and guide decisions about how to use limited resources to improve patient outcomes.
