Moving Forward Coalition Conversation: Pathways to Support - Barrier Free Living’s Approach to Safe Housing for Survivors with Disabilities and Older Adults

Moving Forward Coalition May27

Moving Forward Nursing Home Quality Coalition is holding a Coalition Conversation webinar, May 27, on, "Pathways to Support: Barrier Free Living’s Approach to Safe Housing for Survivors with Disabilities and Older Adults."

Since 1978, Barrier Free Living (BFL) has developed a range of residential and community-based services to support individuals who have experienced domestic violence in New York. Over time, BFL has also recognized the growing needs of older adults with disabilities, particularly those transitioning out of institutional settings such as nursing homes.

In this session, Cynthia Amodeo, Chief Executive Officer, and Diana Turner, Chief Program Officer, will share how BFL approaches housing and support services for people with disabilities across the lifespan. Presenters will explore how overlapping factors—such as accessibility barriers, social isolation, and limited resources—can heighten vulnerability and complicate recovery from domestic violence.

This presentation offers an opportunity to better understand how housing models can support people with disabilities and older adults as they move toward greater independence and safety, while developing evolving needs.
