NADRC Webinar: Creating a Dementia-Capable Workforce of First Responders
The National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center (NADRC) is holding a webinar May 21 on "Creating a Dementia-Capable Network of First Responders."
It is not uncommon for people living with dementia (PLWD) and their caregivers to encounter first responders, including law enforcement, as they age in their homes and communities. To best serve PLWD, first responders benefit from thorough training to understand dementia and its symptoms.
Through their Alzheimer’s Disease Programs Initiative grant, the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) engaged Dementia Friendly Fort Worth (DFFW) to design and implement a full-day dementia training program from which over 800 police cadets have benefited. This webinar will explore the partnership between NCTCOG and DFFW and how they developed and implemented their curriculum, including the engagement with the police academy leadership and its impact on cadets’ knowledge, skills, and attitudes.
Speakers include:
- Doni Green, MS, Director of Aging Programs, North Central Texas Council of Governments
- Christy Martinez, Director of Law Enforcement, North Central Texas Council of Governments Regional Police Academy
- Gail Snider, Executive Director, Dementia Friendly Fort Worth
