Next Avenue Article: The Age Wave is Here, and Age-Friendly Care is the Solution
Next Avenue has published an article, "The Age Wave is Here, and Age-Friendly Care is the Solution," authored by Terry Fulmer, PhD, RN, FAAN, president of The John A. Hartford Foundation.
The article reviews findings from a study conducted by JAHF and Age-Wave, where only one in ten adults grade the U.S. health system an "A" and over 80% of older adults believe that the health system is not prepared to meet the needs of our aging society.
The findings reflect the need, the article notes, for an evidence-based Age-Friendly care approach that ensures that older adults are getting the health care that they want, deserve and need by using the Age-Friendly Health Systems 4Ms Framework. Research shows that older adults who receive age-friendly care report better relationships with their healthcare providers as well as overall better health.
This article is part of a JAHF-sponsored special series on Next Avenue, Talking About It: Aging and Mental Health, with expert insight and personal stories on how to challenge stigma and rethink mental health as we age.
