The Hartford Center for Geriatric Nursing Excellence at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), in collaboration with AACN, will be hosting a free Webinar, Overcoming Barriers to the Integration of Gerontology Content in Undergraduate Nursing Programs: Lessons Learned Post-GNEC, on June 12, 12:00-1:30 pm CST (1:00-2:30 pm EST).

Several years ago, the Geriatric Nursing Education Consortium (GNEC) project disseminated nationally a model to successfully incorporate gerontology content into the undergraduate nursing curriculum. Since this time, faculty identified system and intraprofessional barriers to fully integrating gerontology curricular content into their curricula. This Webinar will address barriers and provide recommendations to improve on this work. Those who have been engaged in this process at their schools of nursing are asked to submit comments/questions in advance and during the presentation. Nationally recognized scholars will provide real-world guidance to faculty and schools of nursing: Beth Barba, Professor, University of North Carolina Greensboro; Joan Stanley, Senior Director of Education Policy for AACN; Mathy Mezey, Professor Emerita, Senior Research Scientist Associate Director, The Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing, New York University; and Leanne Lefler, Associate Professor & Education Leader, Hartford Center for Geriatric Nursing Excellence, UAMS will lead a panel discussion following a presentation.
