CHCS Evidence Roundup: Reducing Social Isolation and Loneliness Among Older Adults Through Social Prescribing
The Center for Health Care Strategies (CHCS) has released an evidence roundup on social prescribing, an approach that connects people with community programs and activities that support social connection, health and well-being.
The roundup shares research findings that suggest social prescribing can reduce loneliness, strengthen social connection and improve quality of life among older adults. It also highlights approaches that may support effective implementation, including assessing individual needs, matching people with appropriate activities and providing ongoing support.
It includes a list of resources for health care providers, health systems, aging services organizations and community-based organizations interested in implementing social prescribing initiatives.
