Save the Date: Johns Hopkins Summer Research Institute - Developing & Advancing Behavioral Intervent

The Johns Hopkins Summer Research Institute for Developing and Advancing Behavioral Interventions is offered by the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing Center for Innovative Care in Aging to help participants develop testable interventions that have the potential for implementation in practice environments and advance appropriate trial designs. Through discussions of their intervention and study ideas with nationally recognized experts, engaging in small group consultation, and listening to state-of-the-science lectures, Summer Research Institute participants will gain hands-on practical knowledge and skills to advance their respective intervention studies.

Junior faculty, post-doctoral students, researchers, or investigators with limited experience in health-related behavioral intervention research who are seeking to develop and advance a particular intervention to enhance the health and well-being of older adults, their family members, or communities are highly recommended to apply.

Objectives
Upon completing the 3-day Developing Behavioral Interventions program, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the continuum of intervention research from discovery and efficacy to implementation and sustainability
  • Identify delivery characteristics to advance an intervention protocol with implementation potential
  • Examine how and when to involve community and practice-based partners
  • Advance a trial design including measurement, control groups, fidelity, and economic models
  • Understand principles of grant writing to propose an intervention

The 2-day Advancing Your Intervention aims to:

  • Enhance grant writing skills for behavioral intervention research
  • Identify strategies to facilitate dissemination and sustainability efforts for your intervention
  • Develop in depth understanding of implementation theories for framing your intervention
  • Learn novel, methodological approaches for intervention design and implementation
  • Examine economic models and how to evaluate the cost of your intervention
