Skilled Nursing News featured a resident council pilot program at 31 nursing homes across Connecticut, led by the Moving Forward Nursing Home Quality Coalition.

The 18-month pilot showed that strong resident councils can improve residents’ quality of life and quality of care by ensuring their voices are heard in nursing home decisions. Training, ongoing support and collaboration between residents and administrators helped make the councils more effective.

The Moving Forward Coalition plans to use lessons from the pilot to strengthen resident councils nationally while keeping the work resident-led and grounded in lived experience.
