RAISE Family Caregiver Advisory Council’s Initial Report to Congress

RAISE Just Released Social

The federally mandated RAISE Family Caregiving Advisory Council has released key recommendations to better support family caregivers in its Initial Report to Congress.

The RAISE (Recognize, Assist, Include, Support, and Engage) Advisory Council - comprised of family caregivers and experts - developed the 26 recommendations after a two-year, multifaceted effort that gathered information from family caregivers across the country. These efforts included a formal request for information from family caregivers, a series of listening sessions and focus groups, more than a dozen briefings from experts in the field, along with the considerable personal and professional insight members of the council brought to its deliberations.

Recommendations fall under five goals, which include:

  • Increasing Awareness of Family Caregivers
  • Engaging Family Caregivers as Partners in Healthcare and Long-Term Services and Supports
  • Improving Access to Services and Supports for Family Caregivers
  • Supporting Financial and Workplace Security for Family Caregivers
  • Generating Research, Data, and Evidence-Informed Practices

Following these recommendations, the RAISE Advisory Council will develop a National Strategy to Support Family Caregivers to coordinate federal, state, local and private sector actions to improve the lives of family caregivers.

In support of the RAISE Family Caregiver Advisory Council’s initial report to Congress and the subsequent National Family Caregiving Strategy, the Administration for Community Living, The John A. Hartford Foundation, the National Alliance for Caregiving (NAC), and the National Academy for State Health Policy partnered to share the lived experience of family caregivers across the lifespan.

The John A. Hartford Foundation and the National Academy for State Health Policy support the RAISE Family Caregiving Advisory Council by providing resources, technical assistance, and policy analysis.
