Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence Renewal Pennslyvania

Grant Summary

The John A. Hartford Foundation renewed its five centers of geriatric nursing excellence to continue their work in strengthening nursing for the care of older adults. These renewal grants focus on three coreactivities in academic geriatric nursing: the development of faculty with expertise in geriatrics, the creation of sustainability plans for each center, and the formation of a collaborative Hartford Center funding proposal in 2012. The five centers of geriatric nursing excellence are part of the Foundation"s Building Academic Geriatric Nursing Capacity Initiative (www.geriatricnursing.org). This initiative was created in 2000 in response to the critical shortage of nursing faculty with the geriatric skills needed to educate future generations of nurses and the paucity of geriatric nursing curricula and research.
