Evaluation of the Foundation's Geriatric Nursing Programs

Grant Summary

The Measurement Group (TMG) will continue its overall evaluation of the Foundation's work in geriatric nursing. This evaluation will document the strategies which are most effective in increasing faculty training and research capacity, and the impact they are having on the field of nursing. In addition, TMG will compile lessons learned from the projects for dissemination. This information will also be used to guide the Foundation's future funding efforts in geriatric nursing. The Foundation has committed $34 million to address the critical shortage of nurses and faculty trained to meet the health care needs of the nation's growing population of older adults. To date, findings from the national evaluation have included: expanded productivity of schools associated with the Hartford Geriatric Nursing Initiative, the leveraging of $50 million for geriatric nursing research, successful integration of geriatric content into nursing curricula and the creation of communication mechanisms across projects to facilitate information exchange.
