Hartford Geriatrics Health Outcomes Research Scholars
Grant Summary
Shortages of geriatrics faculty in all of the health professions remains one of the most important barriers to overcome in moving toward the Foundation's mission of preparing the nation to better care for its older citizens. The Geriatrics Heath Outcomes Research Scholars award-open to researchers who study the health, functional and well-being outcomes of older people related to models of health service delivery, health policy or clinical quality improvement strategies- will protect research time and provide mentoring and networking opportunities for four scholars each year. Because of its outstanding reputation, strong applicant pool and vital role in the Foundation's mission, a grant has been made to continue this program.Several enhancements will also be supported under Foundation sponsorship. In addition to two awards reserved for geriatrician researchers, support will be available for up to two additional researchers from the closely related field of general internal medicine who are pursuing careers in aging (12 scholars will be supported over the four years). In addition, the project will support a meeting of current and alumni scholars and mentors in conjunction with the American Geriatrics Society annual meeting.
