Age-Friendly Health Systems Research Network: Join the 2026 Monthly Webinars

UCSF AFHS Research Network2026

The Age-Friendly Health Systems (AFHS) Research Network was launched by a team at the University of California, San Francisco, to support collaboration, networking and resource sharing among the AFHS research community, and holds a monthly webinar series.

The next webinar is May 15 on "Natural Language Processing (NLP) Applications for 4Ms," where the AFHS NLP Working Group will explore how natural language processing can uncover insights in electronic health record clinical notes. They will also highlight real-world efforts to extract and standardize key 4Ms concepts across health systems.

During the fourth webinar on April 3, a talented group of researchers shared their approaches to conducting human-centered design research in 4Ms contexts.

During the third webinar on March 20, a panel of experts, including Helen Burstin and Cheryl Phillips, shared the CMSS-led project to engage specialty societies and ambulatory practices in developing toolkits to support 4Ms implementation.

During the second webinar on February 20, a panel of experts, including Sweta Tewary, Oscar Flores and Marla Berg-Weger, explored the opportunities and challenges of implementing the AFHS 4Ms in varied settings and showcased innovative research collaborations with community partners.

During the first webinar on January 9, a panel of experts, including Nicholas Schiltz, Thomas Bayor, Kaley Hayes and Heather Davila, shared their recent work on AFHS outcomes.

The AFHS Research Network initiative aims to advance the evidence base for Age-Friendly Health Systems and the 4Ms and is guided in part by a council of leaders, with broad representation across health care settings and disciplines.

It is open to all researchers interested in or currently working in the AFHS space. Network activities include a monthly webinar, newsletter, and opportunities to network and share resources. Members will have opportunities to present and receive feedback on ideas for AFHS research or measurement work, share tools and resources such as funding opportunities, learn about emerging topics, and identify potential collaborators, mentors, and career development opportunities.
