Ageism Awareness Day 2024
The American Society on Aging (ASA) is spearheading the 2024 Ageism Awareness Day on October 9 this year. Modeled after the United Nation’s International Day of Older Persons (October 1), Ageism Awareness Day provides an opportunity to draw attention to the existence and impact of ageism in our society. NCEA and ASA are holding a webinar October 2 on tools and resources for Ageism Awareness Day.
The National Center to Reframe Aging (NCEA), in collaboration with the American Society on Aging (ASA), is holding a special Ageism Awareness Day webinar on October 2. The webinar will explore resources to help you raise awareness of ageism, including Reframing Aging's toolkit.
Ageism refers to stereotypes (how we think), prejudice (how we feel), and discrimination (how we act) toward others or ourselves based on age. ASA's fact sheet notes that it negatively impacts our health and well-being, our financial security, and the economy. It exists in many forms, influencing everything from personal interactions to public policy, and impacts us at every age.
Ageism Awareness Day exists to spread the good news that we can do something about this and we can begin by spreading the word: use the hashtag #TalkAboutAgeism, go to the sample social media and email toolkit and access ASA's resources.
Join NCEA's webinar, October 2 at 12pm.
Join an ASA live workshop, Ending Ageism Together, October 9 at 1pm (free for ASA members).
