WGBH: New National Data Shows 'Crisis' Of Elder Abuse
The WGBH article, "New National Data Shows 'Crisis' Of Elder Abuse," discusses the number of cases of elder abuse or neglect that were reported to adult protective agencies around the country.
"The federal Administration for Community Living estimated that in 2016, 1.5 million cases of abuse were reported to adult protective agencies around the country, and that about half of those of those reports were deemed worthy of further investigation. And that is probably just the tip of the iceberg."
The Administration for Community Living (ACL) has begun releasing its updated reports for the Year 1 (federal FY 2016) National Adult Maltreatment Reporting System (NAMRS) data. This is the first consistently, systematically, and nationally collected data on the abuse of older adults and adults with disabilities:
