Health Affairs Publishes New Age-Friendly Health Articles in June and July

Health Affairs has published four new Age-Friendly Health articles and two Health Podyssey podcasts in June and July on transitional care management, the impact of value-based purchasing programs on skilled nursing facilities, the CMS hospice star rating system, and qualified Medicare beneficiary programs.

All four articles are part of Health Affairs' Age-Friendly Health series.

The authors analyze data from the Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey (MCBS) from 2016 to 2022 to examine enrollment trends in the Qualified Medicare Beneficiary (QMB) program and compare the characteristics of enrollees with those of eligible non-enrollees.

The authors evaluate the effectiveness of the Skilled Nursing Facility Value-Based Purchasing Program in reducing hospital readmissions and other targets using a difference-in-differences analysis of data from 2011 to 2021.

CMS’s Hospice Star Rating System Limited By Missing Data by Amanda C. Chen, David C. Grabowski
The authors look at the CMS hospice star rating system and provide recommendations for CMS and other policy makers to improve the value for hospice patients of publicly reported star ratings.
