NASEM Call for Resident Perspectives: Quality of Care in Nursing Homes
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine's Committee on the Quality of Care in Nursing Homes is inviting residents, families and nursing home workers to share their stories, thoughts and ideas about nursing home care as part of its nursing home study.
The committee was created to develop a set of findings and recommendations to delineate a framework and general principles for improving the quality of care in today’s nursing homes, delivering high quality care in a consistent manner, and ensuring the safety and well-being of residents and staff in nursing homes. The committee is examining how our nation delivers, regulates, finances and measures quality of nursing home care, including the long-standing challenges brought to light by the COVID-19 pandemic.
As part of the study, the committee wants to hear resident, family and nursing home worker perspectives about their experiences, thoughts, and ideas about the nursing home care that they receive or deliver, and what they would change about it if they could.
