NASEM Roundtable on Quality Care for People with Serious Illness Webinar Series Recordings: Public Perceptions of Palliative Care

NASEM WEBINAR SERIES 1

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) Roundtable on Quality Care for People with Serious Illness hosted a three-part webinar series on palliative care in May and June 2024. The webinar series was titled, "Changing Public Perceptions to Build Awareness, Knowledge, and Uptake of Palliative Care: An Evidence-based Approach."

  1. June 13 webinar: "Case Studies: Applying the Research to Change Public Perceptions about Palliative Care." Speakers provided examples of how evidence-based principles have been applied to change public outreach about palliative care. Examples were drawn from a national organization, an academic medical center, and a health care system.
  2. May 30 webinar: "Evidence-based Practices for Changing Public Perceptions about Palliative Care." Speakers focused on translating research evidence into practice for reaching the public and building public interest in palliative care.
  3. May 20 webinar: "Addressing Public Misperceptions About Palliative Care." Evidence shows that earlier access to palliative care improves patient and family outcomes, yet misperceptions serve as barriers to access to palliative care earlier in the course of serious illness.
