NASEM Workshop: Advancing Health Care Professional Education and Training in Diagnostic Excellence
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) is holding a hybrid, public workshop April 3 on "Advancing Health Care Professional Education and Training in Diagnostic Excellence: A Workshop" It is being held both online and in-person in Irvine, California.
The workshop will explore opportunities to strengthen health care professional education and training in the diagnostic process and reduce the potential for diagnostic errors.
Topics of discussion will explore educational strategies within areas such as:
- The iterative and collaborative nature of the diagnostic process
- Patient and community-centered approaches
- Strategies to improve communication, care coordination and teamwork
- Factors that contribute to diagnostic disparities
- The appropriate use of diagnostic tests and technologies including artificial intelligence to support the diagnostic process
