National Alliance for Caregiving: Caregiving in the US 2025 Report and Data Hub

NAC Caregiving in the U S 2025 Resource Post

The National Alliance for Caregiving (NAC) and AARP has released a major report, Caregiving in the US 2025, and a new Caregiving in the US (CGUS) Data Hub.

Caregiving in the US (CGUS) is the nation’s leading ongoing data project on family caregiving. First conducted in 1997, CGUS provides a regular pulse check on the economic and healthcare realities of America’s growing community of family caregivers. It explores the challenges and opportunities associated with caregiving across different populations and life stages.

This year’s report is the most comprehensive look yet at the realities facing family caregivers across the country. The report offers new insights into the financial, emotional and workplace impacts of family caregiving, as well as the evolving needs and priorities of family caregivers nationwide. Insights include:

  • Nearly 1 in 4 Americans is a family caregiver—a staggering 45% increase from 2015
  • Most care recipients are older adults; nearly half are 75+ and most face multiple chronic health conditions
  • Caregivers spend an average of 27 hours per week providing care, and 24% provide 40 or more hours a week
  • Half of all working caregivers experience impacts on their employment
  • Nearly half of caregivers report at least one negative financial impact from their caregiving responsibilities, including taking on debt, not saving money, and using up short-term savings
  • Caregiving takes a toll on the physical and emotional health of caregivers; one in five rate their health as fair or poor

The report provides the most complete picture yet of who America’s caregivers are and what we need to do. Its findings and data will be an invaluable resource for policymakers, advocates and service providers to strengthen caregiving policies and programs to serve our communities.

In conjunction with the report, NAC has launched the Caregiving in the US (CGUS) Data Hub. This new resource brings to life the data, trends, and insights from Caregiving in the US 2025, including:
