National Rural Health Association Article: Promotoras de Salud - Helping Community Health Workers Care for Older Adults
National Rural Health Association (NRHA) has released an article, "Promotoras de Salud: Helping Community Health Workers Care for Older Adults."
Community health workers (CHWs), commonly known as “promotoras de salud” in Spanish-speaking communities and along border regions, have taken a prominent role in caring for older adults and educating family caregivers in rural areas.
This year JAHF partnered with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, the University of Texas at Arlington, and NRHA to provide Age-Friendly Health Systems training to 100 CHWs in El Paso and online. The training was the first-of-its-kind, certified by the Texas Department of Health, and focused on the 4Ms Framework for age-friendly care as an evidence-based approach for improving the health of older adults in rural communities.
